Today has been....today has been a day. A hard day. A tough day. A difficult, demanding, heartbreaking day.
I met with my pulmonologist today. As per usual, my weight loss is the biggest concern amongst all of my doctors. But so many tests come back normal. So many things indicate I'm fine (read: my post below about it all being in my head). Yet, at the same time, it does not all add up. I was really hoping for an explanation for the carbon monoxide in my blood--but they did not have one. In fact, they question my smoking also..."Not even one cigarette?"....No. Not one. Not one! So why?! We tested the house. We tested the car!
Anyways, my pulmonologist is working with a theory that this is Histiocytosis X--or, in laymen's terms, the internet explains it this way "Histiocytosis X has typically been thought of as a cancer-like condition. More recently researchers have begun to suspect that it is actually an autoimmune phenomenon, in which immune cells mistakenly attack the body, rather than fight infections. Extra immune cells may form tumors, which can affect various parts of the body including the bones, skull, and other areas."
So....it's either Sarcoidosis, or Mitochondrial Myopathies, or Histiocytosis X.....or it's all in my head.
